This is what I am trying to experience currently. WOW what a difference between these two databases. I now experiencing how it really matters where one work on one database for a long time and how difficult is it to change database, syntax, OOOOPhh difference with stored procedure syntax and behaviour of stored procedure results.

One thing what I think is Oracle being leader in Database, why are not good free query tools available in Market. Correct me if I am wrong, most of the query tools available require oracle Client, Tnsora files. SQL Developer is one exception. In SQL Server 2008 stored proc when you have Select command written stored procedure result is SQL Query results. In Oracle we have to store these results in Ref Cursors or Cursors and print one after another.

Now problem I am having is finding an free ETL tool to move data from My-SQL to Oracle and SQL server 2008 to Oracle. Problem is SSIS is not having right ODBC drivers and finding hard to find drivers.

New free tool which I downloaded is Talend. Demo looked promising, I tried using it. Its very slow in response or my laptop is not good.

All views I am sharing is my personnel experience at work.

Keep reading for more.

Sorry to say, I am now liking both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. MS-SQL is my bread and butter. Oracle is new place to explore. I understand there has to be difference with different flavor of databases.

Friends, if you have any good reference sites, please pass it on to me..... I would like to explore more options and features available.  In my next updated of my website I would try to have some reference website and material's.

I would definately recommend one to spend some time on:

1) For Microsoft: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/

2) For Oracle: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/index.html

Have a nice time,

Rajesh
